ATT32367 Sopwith 1 & 1/2 Strutter 9407 Collishaw/Draper No.3 Wing RNAS
Dave Hooper explains :
9407 is the aircraft that Collishaw flew over to France in. It was used on operations by a number of pilots including Collishaw. As a very early production Sopwith built Strutter it left the factory with a clear doped fuselage finish but was partially repainted in PC10. I am aware of only one photograph of the aircraft in this early paint scheme. Squadron accounts of this aircraft record that it was marked with a number 16 which isn’t visible on the photograph leading me to follow some others in the supposition that the 16 was fairly small and in a position that would have been hidden by the drooped elevator in the photograph. I believe the coaming is more likely to be overpainted in PC10, but I have seem artists interpretations with a wooden coaming.
Aluminium cowls.
