ATT32368 Sopwith 1 & 1/2 Strutter 9722 Draper/Barker No.3 Wing RNAS
Dave Hooper explains :
9722 is a bit more speculative and based on the same line-up photograph as 9739. There is a second photograph of 9722 in flight but this does not show some of the details visible on the line-up photo.
The line-up photo clearly shows three white vertical lines towards the rear of the aircraft, the most forward of which takes on the appearance of a cross which I believe is actually ‘Lift Here” wording. I couldn’t work out the purpose of the other two white lines until I noticed that the colour shade between these lines was different to the PC10. Hence 9722 has been given a blue strip with white outlines at the rear of the aircraft. Considering that this action might be considered a step to far for some I have also include replacement PC10 with white lines for this area. If you buy in to the blue strip theory, then there is the possibility that the strip extended to the underside, and so I have included an optional alternative underside top depict this. Interesting enough the in-flight photograph shows no evidence of white stripes suggesting another variation of the scheme either before or after the scheme that I have tried to interpret.
